Tesla unveiled its newest Model S Plaid: the Hottest 1,100 HP, 200 MPH, and 520-Mile Range Electric Vehicle

Tesla CEO Elon Musk ended the Battery Day event with a big blast by unveiling Tesla’s newest Model S Plaid.

Battery day event was held last September 22, 2020 to discuss more about Tesla’s own battery designs and manufacturing advancements. Since it’s a Tesla event, people are expecting that Tesla will release news about its cars. Just ahead of the Q&A, Elon Musk grabbed the attention of everyone in the event when he showed a video of the upcoming Model S Plaid pulling off a 1.30.3 lap time at Laguna Seca track.

The name of this new Model S variant, Plaid, was referenced from the movie ‘Spaceballs’, a 1987 parody of Star Wars directed by Mel Brooks. The name also resembles a lot of its performance and as what Tesla puts it, “The only thing beyond Ludicrous is Plaid.”

It is not the first time that the Model S Plaid was known to the public since Tesla started testing early prototypes on a few racetracks around the world. What caught the attention of the people is the high and jaw-dropping performance specification associated with the Plaid.

• Range: 520 miles
• Engine: 1,100 Horsepower
• Top Speed: 200 mph
• 0-60 mph acceleration:  <2 seconds (quickest quarter-mile acceleration of any production car ever)
• Tri Motor All-Wheel Drive
• Quarter mile drag strip: <9 seconds

Elon Musk thought that there’s a possibility of another 3 seconds or more to take off on time. They are also confident that the Model S Plaid will achieve the best track time of any production vehicle ever.

And by just a couple of weeks after Lucid unveiled its newest air electric sedan, the Air, Tesla already outshined it by bringing this new Model S Plaid into the discussion.

For less than a year, the Model S specifications were improved by this much which proves that there are much more to expect from Tesla in the following years. You might know how amazing this specification really is if you compare it to a specialized drag strip car. According to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), a Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is capable of going from zero to 60 in 2.3 seconds and running a quarter-mile in 9.65 seconds. Pretty impressive, right?

The Plaid is not only for vigilant drivers but for those who also value power and speed. Range is also one of the most important figures the buyers take into consideration. This newest high-performance variant of Model S will surely be a buyers’ favorite since it can go even further on a single charge and can now claim as the world’s longest-range EV.

Elon Musk confirmed on Twitter last November that the battery pack will be upped for the Plaid variant. Currently, 100 kWh unit is the biggest battery pack you can get in the Model S and X.

Just by the specification alone, buyers will have to expect Plaid to cost them a fortune for about $139,990. Tesla also has a potential savings option of $134,490 for this EV that includes potential incentives and gas savings of $5,500. The Model S variant is now open for orders and those speed enthusiasts can get their hands on it not until late 2021.

Tesla has yet to fully reveal the car’s interior and exterior design. The company is also planning to return to the German circuit later this year to challenge the lap time set by the Porsche Taycan Turbo S.
